Thames Valley University
Thames Valley University is one of the UK’s largest Universities and is among the first to implement the Unique^® Campus Card management system.

During 2005, the new Unique multifunctional campus card was introduced for use by some 45,000 student and staff across the University’s campuses in Ealing, Slough and Reading.

This project included replacement of existing card systems, interfacing with students and staff records systems, integrating with existing access control, library issuing and T&A systems, as well as implementing new e-purse and print management solutions. ICTS, the Unique systems integrators worked closely with TVU technical staff on the integration and interfacing with University systems. The university’s integral card services team also transferred to ICTS, who took total management responsibility for the delivery of the new Unique solution.

The introduction of Unique was accompanied by an internal marketing campaign, designed to keep staff and students informed of new development and assist in the smooth transition between systems. A dedicated website was set up to provide up to date information about the project and Marketing Services contributed ideas and designs for posters and leaflets.

Maggie Stephens, TVU’s Director of LIS who headed the project, commented that, “the introduction of Unique was a very exciting process. We had to overcome some very complex issues, both technically and in terms of perception. But TVU was determined to see it through and worked closely with ICTS, the system integrators. We are all enthusiastic about benefiting from the full potential of Unique in the coming months.

Leeds Metropolitan University
September 2008 saw the launch of the Unique card (under the Leeds Met brand name of ‘Club Carnegie Card’) at Leeds Met.
Unique was selected as the ideal solution for the over 30,000 students and staff providing access to a range of university facilities such as the library.
For students, the Unique card also demonstrates their membership of the Students’ Union.
